In a sense… it would be easy to say the writer’s job is to act like a mathematician.

If in the case of “man murders his wife” and “the murder was accidental”, we can apply such themes as regret. This shows the reader guilt and expresses fear.
If the murder was accidental, and god forbid such an act, we can ride on such universal themes as paranoia – evading capture disposing the body etc.
Fear of being caught.
Perhaps because the couple have a child and the man must raise child – leaving the element of responsibility and yet again, guilt of neglect on a “fatherhood” perspective.
